Happy New Year 2016

2015 was an active year for APFORGEN

The Working Group on Mobilizing Support for the Implementation of the Global Plan of Action on Forest Genetic Resources moved ahead in establishing a Regional Training Centre on forest genetic resources, with an international planning workshop held in China 1-3 December. Next steps include establishing a Steering Committee and conducting a survey on training needs to develop the training programme in detail.

The Working Group on Strengthening Tree Seed Programmes conducted a global survey on seed and seedling sources in forest restoration, in collaboration with the forest genetic resources networks in Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. The results are being analysed and will be presented at the Asia Pacific Forestry Week, held in February in the Philippines.

APFORGEN also launched a new website and a monthly newsletter, to improve communications about forest genetic resources and build up a community of people working on these issues in the region. We warmly welcome news and updates for the newsletter, whether on new publications, upcoming events, opinion pieces, career opportunities or others. Contact us at apforgen@gmail.com to share your news.
