Selecting the right tree species, sourcing seed from appropriate origins and tracking restoration outcomes over time are foundational to effective forest restoration. Yet, in species-rich tropical forests and with a changing climate, the best choices are often far from obvious. This webinar will showcase open-access digital tools that support several stages of forest-ecosystem restoration, from species choices and seed sourcing to germination testing and field monitoring. Join us to explore the growing digital infrastructure behind evidence-based forest restoration.

Showcased tools:

  • D4R - Diversity for Restoration. Matching species with site conditions and restoration objectives – Dr. Tobias Fremout, Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT
  • MFT - My Farm Trees tracking restoration from seeds to established trees by smartphone – Dr. Chris Kettle, Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT
  • SeedPOD - a one-stop shop for information on sourcing and handling seeds - Naomi Carvey, Kew Botanic Gardens
  • GEA - Germination Experiment Assistant - Dr. Jan Sala Vila, Kew Botanic Gardens
  • WYSE DICKIE predictor of seed storage behaviour - Dr. Kiran Dhanjal-Adams, Kew Botanic Gardens
  • BYLINE - a CMS with the potential to integrate digital tools for comprehensive restoration support - Anthony Bouch, Infonomic (NEW ADDITION)

Whether you work in the field, manage biodiversity data or fund restoration programs, you'll gain an understanding of what these tools can do and get connected with the tool developers. Expect short demonstrations, live discussion on decision-support needs, and practical insights from both tool developers and users.
